Arranger Lab is an arranger keyboard app published by Digital Strings. This page explains what the app does and does not do with your data.
Short version
Arranger Lab does not run analytics or advertising. The styles, SoundFonts and settings you use stay on your device. The app makes one check with our server when it opens, for your access or licence; during the beta, access comes with a Digital Strings account you sign in to with Google. All of it is described below.
What Arranger Lab stores
The last style bank and SoundFont you opened, and your settings, on your device. Arranger Lab reads the files you open and never uploads them. It has no account system.
The launch check
When it opens, Arranger Lab asks digital-strings.com whether this version may run and whether you have access. The request contains the platform ("macos"), the app's build number, a random one-time number that makes the answer impossible to replay, a device identifier, your sign-in token if you signed in, and your licence key if you entered one.
The device identifier is made by hashing your Mac's hardware identifier with a value specific to Arranger Lab; it can't be turned back into the hardware identifier and means nothing to other apps. We keep it, with the day it was first and last seen, to count the devices on your account or licence, and for nothing else. As with any web request, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) sees your IP address in order to deliver the answer.
Your account and access requests
During the beta Arranger Lab is by invitation. You sign in to your Digital Strings account with Google: Google tells us your email address, that it is verified, and an account number, and nothing else (we ask only for "openid" and "email"); we keep the email as your account. When you request access we keep the request with the name and note you typed, and we email it to ourselves so we can approve it; when we approve it we email you. The app, signed in with that account, keeps a token that tells our server it is you on that device; when you sign in it also sends your device's name, which we keep with the token so you can tell your devices apart. Signing in sets a cookie that keeps you signed in on digital-strings.com; there are no tracking cookies. We send you news only if you ask for it, and every news email has a link to stop it. We never sell or share your email.
On iPhone and iPad
The iPhone and iPad app is not out yet. When it ships, it makes the same launch check, with the platform "ios". Its device identifier is a hash of a random number the app makes the first time it opens and keeps in your device's keychain, shared only with Arranger Lab's own Audio Unit; it is not linked to any Apple identifier. There it uses the same Digital Strings account and Google sign-in, described above.
If you buy Arranger Lab in the app, the App Store handles the payment; we never see your card or your Apple Account. The app sends Apple's signed receipt for that purchase to digital-strings.com, which checks it with Apple and turns it into a licence key, so the same purchase can also open Arranger Lab on your other devices.
Bluetooth is used only to connect Bluetooth MIDI keyboards. The Audio Unit never goes online: it uses the answer the app last received.
Children's privacy
Arranger Lab does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children.
